39 and a Monday

On Sunday my dad turned the big "39". That's right, he's pushing 40... so we celebrated the night before with a big dutch oven dinner. My dad loves to dutch oven and there was no better way for him to enjoy his day than to cook for us all and then serve all of us. All I can say is yummy potatoes and fried chicken. Even Ava ate them - no more rice cereal for her.
Here is the birthday man with the dutch oven plan. Isn't he a good-lookin' fella?
Yes his cake was made of homemade twinkies. Yes you can make homemade twinkies and yes they are better. Leilani always has to steal the birthday limelight.
Happy Birthday Dad!

What a wonderful weekend right! Well I was all geared up to take on this week, but it was a Monday so here's how it went. I didn't get the best night sleep because of my darling baby. However I wanted to make the best of the day and I needed to go to Target after Ava's nap. Usually when she wakes up I send Leilani in to keep her company so I can finish a few more things. Leilani will hop in the crib and they'll talk and play for a while. WARNING - if it's too quiet and they're behaving to well - there's a PROBLEM! I walked in, saw this and screamed for a full minute.
That's right. Leilani and Ava covered in Vaseline - the latest spa treatment... Where do you even begin to clean this up? And this is after Leilani has already covered herself in permanent marker. Ava's laughing because she thinks my screaming is funny. Leilani knows she is in trouble. Note - I did find enough humor in this to run and get the camera.
I scoop the children up and attempt a bath - note - vaseline does nothing with water - only with copious amounts of soap and then not much. I got their bodies mostly clean. Their hair is a whole other matter. I did get them clean enough to run to target.
The After picture.
However, Vaseline does not remove easily from hair. I spent tonight scrubbing and soaking all the clothes and and sheets in Dawn. And then each child got their head scrubbed with Dawn and baby shampoo. I thought that would be enough but as of this post they are do for another Dawn scrubbing in the morning. I hope their clothes fair better than they have.
Leilani was kind enough to help scrub out the clothes. She pushed up her sleeves and got to work. Honestly, that girl was scrubbin'.
In addition I had a huge Ava diaper situation to deal with when I got home from Target that resulted in more bathing and scrubbing - but that is just a normal day in comparison.
ENJOY THE REST OF YOUR WEEK!
